Being pregnant can be a new and exciting experience for some mothers, while others find it to be a strain on their bodies. If this is your first , it is helpful to know what are normal and which ones could be of trouble. Additionally, learning how to manage symptoms can help you enjoy the experience more. Here are some things to keep in mind during your pregnancy.

Almost every woman will feel fatigue during pregnancy. Usually, some women report that they have no energy right from the start, and for others, it doesn’t set in until later on in the pregnancy. It varies greatly from person to person and pregnancy to pregnancy. Remember that your body is working hard to create a new life, which can be tiring.

Going to bed earlier at night, or sleeping later in the morning can help if you’re feeling fatigued during pregnancy. If you can, napping during the day can also be beneficial. According to Healthy Sleep, “Fatigue during pregnancy is normal and results from hormonal changes and an increase in the body’s blood volume. Fatigue may also be related to other causes such as anemia, depression, and poor sleep habits.” If you’re concerned about the amount of fatigue you’re experiencing, be sure to mention it to your OB-GYN, as it could be indicative of other problems.

As you go through your pregnancy, you’ll likely read a lot of different books that all say bleeding or spotting is a big warning sign. They’ll tell you that you should call your OB or go to the ER right away. And while that information is true, some women do experience light bleeding early on in their pregnancies. This is usually mistaken for a period because it occurs within the first two weeks of conception. Along with this light bleeding, you may also feel some cramping. Although it’s always a good idea to let your OB know about any bleeding or cramping you experience, in most cases it’s not a sign of a problem with either the mother or the baby.

Many pregnant women experience nausea and vomiting, especially during the first trimester. This is commonly called morning sickness, but it can happen at any time of day. Some women have nausea and vomiting all day long. If you have these symptoms, be sure to tell your doctor, who will monitor you to make sure you are not becoming dehydrated or not gaining enough weight.

Pregnancy symptoms can vary widely from person to person, and they can also change throughout the course of a pregnancy. Some common symptoms include breast tenderness, increased need to urinate, constipation, headaches, mood imbalances (caused by hormonal changes), weight gain, and dizziness. If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, it’s best to call your OB and report them. In most cases, symptoms will improve during the second trimester and then return towards the end of the pregnancy.
